In “Steve Caballero & Jeremy Wray I Used To Skate” the two professional skateboarding legends roam around the beautiful beach city of Carlsbad, California looking for “used to skaters” to celebrate our annual “I Used To Skate Day on June 22, 2025. We are all familiar with that moment when you’re getting kicked out of a skate spot by security, only to be told, “it’s cool guys I get it, I used to skate.” Or when the random Dad on the street goes out of his way to tell you how he “used to skate back in the Tony Hawk days”. So in this series, we put these claims to the test. So what is a “used to skater”? Anyone who can prove that that in one point in time, they did in fact skate. This can be achieved by actually skating or simply answering a trivia question. Being a used to skater isn’t a bad thing - and many used to skater still skate - just not as great as they maybe once did. IUTS simply shines light on our glory years. Carlsbad definitely delivered! We could hardly move past the Main Street corner without being bombarded with skaters trying to prove themselves. We got a plentiful of flip-flop kickflips, a Mom who “walked the dog”, a steel toe boot switch kickflip, some sort of board-throw-down-flip maneuver and even a couple indoors skate shop clips. We even visited Pipeline skate shop where rumor has it, Tony Hawk got his start. To say the least, Jeremy Wray’s return to Carlsbad was once again a huge success.
