Cleveland Skateboarding Storytellers - Episode 8: Rich Hamila
Cleveland Skateboarding Storytellers - Episode 8: Rich HamilaRich was the first. What I mean by that, is that he was the first name that seemed to be known by most skaters in Cleveland from the east side to the west side, as being one of the best in the area. Back in the 80's he was known for pushing the level of skateboarding to a higher level. He pushed tricks farther and pushed airs higher, all with a new aggressive / take no shit, Cleveland style to his skating. A style that would be mimicked for decades to come. Join me and co host, Eric Becker, as we listen to the legend himself tell us about his vert ramp in the 80's - the first, and possibly only, vert ramp ever in Cleveland city limits. Hear the story of how Schneider's Bike Shop started carrying skateboards. He also talks about his brain injury that he got from a slam at the Bay Village Park. So give a listen with a respectful ear, to one of our own. One that laid the groundwork for us, decades ago. One that has influenced us directly, or indirectly, whether we realized it or not. Rich is one of the reasons why (in my opinion) Cleveland Skateboarding has always had a different energy about it. Side note... We had some wifi issues, so please bear with some of the editing patch work I had to pull off. Thanks!
