Danny Way: DC x Zumiez
www.zumiez.com Legendary pro skateboarder Danny Way sits down with Zumiez in the latest Zumiez interview in Transworld Skateboarding magazine. Zumiez: Do you ever just play around on your board? Danny Way: These days its all or nothing. Anytime I go out there just to play around on my skateboard I end up doing something to hurt myself. I get hurt doing what I do anyways, but when you get taken out enough times you're like maybe I shouldn't go skate that sketchy pool right now cause I'll want to go skate that other thing 2 days from now thats way cooler. Zumiez: How do you warm up for a Mega-Ramp session? Danny Way: I usually wake up. Stretch out. Usually it takes a good idea to get you fueled up to go "ok I'm gonna go do this right now." Once you start skating it you get comfortable in that size, it really becomes just like anything else you do every day. I look at guys grinding 20 stair rails and think those guys are crazy. Zumiez: Did being a pro snowboarder earlier in your career influence your drive to do big airs in skateboarding? Danny Way: The influence I think snowboarding had on my skateboarding was, I think, yeah, I was not afraid to go faster. Snowboarding you go fast all the time. There was a time in snowboarding where skateboarding had a real direct influence on it. Which it kind of evolved out of skateboarding and went more into a gymnastics. Guys started doing triple backflips and double rodeo flips over a hundred foot gaps you know? and it wasn't my thing at that point. Zumiez: How was the experience having a documentary made about you? Danny Way: It felt like 'woah this is a big deal' you know? Like what happens if it sucks? So there were so many little things I thought about going into this, you know that I was internally conflicted with, but ultimately its a pretty honoring feeling to have someone tell you that they think your story is worthy of an audience.
