Hometown Heroes Skate: Des Moines 2011 hhskate.com Hometown Heroes events are unpredictable, sometimes sketchy and always a good time. This stop in Des Moines, Iowa proved to keep us all on our toes as the weather couldn't make up it's mind driving the skaters of Iowa crazy. As precipitation collected, the thermometer dropped and the raindrops began to fall. It's sometimes a good idea to stop any dangerous activity until conditions lighten up and the path becomes more clear. Well, rain or no rain, the shredders of Des Moines were not deterred. With big help from local shop, Subsect, we got underway with or without puddles. With the advantage of having been though the Hometown format before, there were a few contenders who really knew the game and were prepared with tricks that would surely impress the illustrious judges. And that they did. While raindrops fell on their heads, we saw top-notch skating down the stair set with a grip of flip tricks. Bigspins, nollie heels, switch front biggies and massive full-cabs got dropped with style and power. We saw switch barley grinds and a huge 3 flip over the rail.
