Pushing Against Racism Webinar – DIY Organizational Anti-RacismThis webinar was organized by the Pushing Against Racism (PAR) Working Group on August 15, 2024. Theme: Making skateboarding organizations more representative through intentional self-assessment The event featured the perspectives of three guest speakers involved in social skateboarding projects from around the world. The last 30 minutes were a Q&A session, with the opportunity for participants to ask questions and share their own experiences on the topic. Facilitator: - Kyle Burns: Kyle has been a PAR working group member since 2023, a lifelong skateboarder, and is an Equal Employment Opportunity practitioner/mediator with the USA federal government. Guest speakers: - Susie Halsell: Susie is the founder of the skate NGO Bangladesh Street Kids Aid and spoke about her experience as an NGO founder in relationship to privilege and allyship. - Alberto Santos: Alberto is a sports psychologist and works with the skate NGO Love CT – which is a past PAR Fund grantee – and shared how their organization is addressing racism in Brazil. - Tim van Asdonck: Tim is a Board Member and former Programmes Director of the skate NGO Concrete Jungle Foundation, which has built skateparks and run skate programs in several countries worldwide. He spoke about their recent organizational changes to redirect power and money from the international level to local partners.
