I think it started with me not wanting to copy Fred, or Ty - or something? It was also a way to hide someone skating/landing slowly, or a way to hide their arms moving around a lot. But mainly it was for cutting into the next shot when it came time to edit. That commercial at the end of this episode for Show Me the Way was a treat to find, plus Daniel's backside Smith edit too:) I remember putting carpet on a skateboard and getting a small tripod to fit on top. I would use the skateboard as a dolly for a lot of these tight tracking shots. There was no "warp stabilizer" back then either. We finally got to Spain, my dream place to go. Driving into the city I was in awe, the unique cemetery on the side of a hill, the statues, the buildings, the architecture. Every building or plaza was so unique to see by bored, jaded California eyes. We arrived at 7 AM, checked into our hotel, we knew we couldn't sleep so we decided to skate around the city. That was new to me "skate around," what no car? I knew it was a special place when I saw Justin Strubing skating by our hotel at 8:30 AM. What skater was awake that early? The clips you see in Spain in this episode are the first in my log book BUT not the first actual clips of our trip.
