SKATER OWNED: Already Been Chewed | Thriving Businesses Owned By SkatersA series about skateboarders who own businesses that aren’t skate brands.  There is a cruel, cruel reality that comes in every skater’s life when their dream of becoming a professional skateboarder doesn’t come true. It is the moment you realize you have to go out there into the mean world and take care of yourself one way or another. And if you aren’t “lucky” enough to find yourself somewhere in this safe little skateboarding bubble because of where you live, how you grew up or who you know or don’t know, you have to travel out on the path most people set out upon. You have to enter what some may call the real world where no one knows the difference between a switch stance kickflip and a pair of Stance socks.  As hard as that may seem, there are some shining examples of skateboarders who have made good. People who have built businesses that aren’t skate brands that have done quite well and subsequently shown the world that skaters aren’t a bunch of dumb, drug-addicted party piles who just wanna destroy your property. Even if that may be true about a portion of skateboarders, the stereotype certainly doesn’t represent a majority of the culture.
