Participating in the political process only as consumers instead of true participants is what they want. You offered up only the illusion of choice. The doctrines of the Enlightenment held that individuals should be free from the coercion of concentrated power. A real meaningful democracy isn't one where you go into the polling booth and push one of two buttons voting for a candidate you had no role in putting there. A real democracy is one where you play a role in forming those decisions and making and creating those decisions and those positions, those candidates, those winners and losers, reflect your active creative participation.
