Volcom Bastille Days Opening
On Wednesday July 1st, Volcom opened its skate obstacle, which will remain all summer long on the Esplanade du Port de l’Arsenal, Place de La Bastille in Paris. Opening pictures: http://vol.cm/BastilleDaysOpening Bastille Days Event: http://vol.cm/bastilledays The afternoon started with the official opening by the Paris city council, with the presence of three Mayors of the surrounding districts, and then the spot got invaded by skateboarders, never minding the high temperatures (Europe is sweating under a record heat wave). Tons of goodies were given away at our DIY stations (tee shirt screening, hat customising and button making…) and in no time, everyone was hyped to watch the action unfold. Dustin Dollin, David Gonzalez, Eniz Fazliov, Axel Cruysberghs, Victor Pellegrin, Vincent Coupeau and Romain Covolan from the Volcom skate team put down a demo matching the heat! At the end of the demo the list of ABD’s of the spot got quite filled up with notably a switch fs 360 and a switch flip from Axel over the trash bin, some trademark crails from David, an alley oop fs 270 heelflip from Eniz and a a double flip by Victor… Right after this some of Paris big dogs entered into the mix during a “Trick 4 Trick” session organised by Electric, where the skaters had to land the same tricks that Electric team skaters David Gonzalez and Sam Partaix were doing for cash. The day ended with music and drinks, but unfortunately without the planned live concert due to some tech problems, and the skateboarders took over the spot for a first of a long series of evening sessions. A big thank you to the city council of Paris for bringing this to skateboarding in Paris, Sterling Projects for such a rad design and finishing details, to Cosanostra skatepark, to Carlsberg for the refreshments, Snowbeach, Urban Surfers, Citadium, Hawaii Surf, Guillaume Perimony for the clip and Jelle Keppens for the photos.
