WITP European Tour Austria 7 September 2013
Sharing borders with the river Inn and the typical mountainous landscape of the alps, Skatepark Wörgl is probably one of the most picturesque parks in Austria. With its remote location in the Inntal, Tirol, one may find perfect features for a skate-weekend: campfires, hammock and tents spots, and a number of bowls to shred. Roman Astleitner and local Skateshop Pilotto joined forces with the city council in 2007 to pour some concrete at this remote area to create Wörgl Skatepark. With the finalisation of the new park section it was time for Volcom to return to the sunny concrete slopes of Wörgl after its first WITP visit in 2008. After camping at the bowl the team awoke to a crispy clear morning, promising a hot and wicked day; perfect conditions to run the Wild In The Parks AUSTRIA. The park is naturally divided into three areas including the Spanish tube with extension, the new flow section with the quaterpipe and the old section with hips, banks & the spine. As the park was merely getting crowded, Monster Energy supplied refreshments and a chill out area. Everything was somewhat falling into places, and as the last skateboarders from Innsbruck arrived, it was time to start the contest! The first heat was basically a mixture of the -14/+15 division, as the participation level was rather medium in these categories. Amongst the riders were some locals who certainly did not leave any stone unturned in order to show their knowledge of the park to the judges (Heiko Jäger, Chris Hoch & Felix Gundrum). During this heat, Twelve-year-old Tyler Edtmayer was popping very mature bs methods in the quarter, as well as a few solid handplants over the spin. At the end of the day Tyler landed save and sound on the first place of the under -14 Division. Meanwhile in the +15 category the guys were ripping the shit out of any transition and multiple times surprised the audience with footplant combinations.
