WITP European Tour 2013 - Portugal July 6
On Saturday 6th we ran the Wild In The Parks for the 2nd consecutive year at Maia's Skatepark near Porto. It was hot, really hot, both the weather and the skateboarding.
Before the competition started everyone had free food, free drinks and tons of water to try to fight the extremely hot weather. Hundreds of bottles of water were consumed and the near fountain had everyone diving into it.
At the ramps the temperature was also high form beginning to end as the 100 competitors at the there categories displayed a very high level of skateboarding.
Comforted by the free food and drinks the 14 & under division was the first one to compete. Tiago Lopes came out on top but the twins Gabriel and Gustavo Ribeiro stood out pulling double kickflips and hardflips at the pyramid, showing lots of base and confidence. Some of the younger 6 to 10 year olds that competed on this division had a blast too.
As the 15 & over division started the level rose up and the competition became fiercer. Standouts were Afonso Nery with a consistent kickflip at the double step and Tiago Pinto would pull a smooth impossible at the pyramid. Both being rewarded by the judges finishing first and second.
Open division competitors went nuts as they knew that to secure a spot at 2013 Euro WITP Championships they had to rip. Everyone was throwing crazy moves all over the Skatepark, like b/s 360º kickflip Nose Slide at the pyramid curb, transfer noseblunt using the rail and curb of the funbox, big hardflip at the double set, b/s double kickflip flying over the pyramid and some highly creative moves. All kinds of things prove the level of the Portuguese skateboarding is very much alive and improving.
Anyway the most important thing about the Volcom Wild In The Parks 2013 is that it was a big skateboarder gathering where everyone relaxed had tons of fun and I guess that's what it is supposed to be about.
Thanks to everyone invo
