HUF x Challenger Los AngelesFor Fall 2016, HUF Worldwide and Tokyo-based clothing company, Challenger meet again to release their second capsule collection together. Based off of Keith Hufnagel’s zodiac sign, the Tiger, Challenger designer Satoru Taguchi drew inspiration from 80’s skate culture for the capsule collaboration. In an era when the skate scene was steadily back on the rise, Taguchi explains, “I was most influenced by the 80’s, a time when many of our favorite skaters developed their own styles, the forefathers of these sub-cultures ‘came up first’ out of this emerging skate scene, and created identities that went on to inspire many skate brands we see today.” In honor of these pioneers, to encapsulate both Japanese street-wear fashion and the American skate pastime, Keith’s zodiac Tiger and fire rising are designed throughout the capsule collection on a deck, bandana, coaches jacket, socks, hats, tees, fleece, and pair of Classic Hi’s. HUF and Challenger pay homage, through the acronym “CUF,” to the inspirational skaters who ‘came up first’ out of the 80’s skate scene in order to inspire the skate-cultures we value today. The HUF x Challenger capsule collection is available exclusively at select Japanese Challenger retailers and HUF flagship stores worldwide.
